Black Township Fire and Rescue is located just outside the city limits of Mount Vernon, Indiana and we are 13 miles west of Evansville, Indiana in Posey County. First organized in 1952 they were the first county fire department for the southern half of Posey County. Today, Black Township Fire and Rescue is a combination fire department with two stations (one at 5775 Industrial Rd. and the other at 4260 E. Copperline Rd.) which cover Black and Lynn Township (134 square miles). Black Township Fire and Rescue protects a mix of residential, commercial, rural, and industrial firefighting (with 18 major industries in just Black Township alone). They are also involved with water rescue with the two major rivers bordering Posey County (the Ohio and Wabash rivers).
